Book Preface

This book is a collection of our thoughts and learning over several decades of test practice. Both of us have managed test groups in the automotive world, which includes the following disciplines:

• Software engineering
• Mechanical engineering
• Electrical engineering
• Metallurgical and materials engineering
• Procurement/purchasing
• Quality engineering
• Digital electronics
• Industrial engineering
• Manufacturing engineering

In part of the book, we compare contradictory perspectives to see if we can shed some light on beneficial considerations during the creation of our test suites and execution of our test plans. We know that system-level testing is usually the last-executed kind of testing and that this collection of final actions is often too late and too little, with much of the work accomplished in a rush.
