Quantum Physics is a subset of physics that has to be studied with submicroscopic artifacts. Since such phenomena are smaller than we can perceive consciously using our senses, and usually have to be studied using devices, several aspects of quantum mechanics appear as exotic and strange as aspects of relativity. Yet, like gravity, quantum mechanics deals with real facts, and it is more exotic than fiction.
Many facets of quantum mechanics are well known to us. We all agree that matter is made up of atoms, the smallest unit of an entity and that such atoms join to create molecules, the smallest unit of a compound. Although we cannot see the actual molecules of water in a lake, for example, we know it is because the molecules in that lake are too tiny and too many. As atoms are added, we usually assume that electrons surround atoms in discrete shells around a tiny nucleus, itself consisting of smaller particles called protons and neutrons. We also know the electrical charges fall in tiny units borne nearly exclusively by electrons and protons. As for the water molecules in the air, we do not note specific changes in the current through the light bulb, since the charges are too tiny and too abundant in the macroscopic conditions that we can experience.
Atoms, molecules, and the basic charges of electrons and protons are both representations of physical phenomena that are quantified — that is, they only exist in some distinct quantities and do not have any possible meaning. Quantified is the inverse of constant. We cannot have a portion of a molecule, or half of an electron charge, or 14-1/3 cents, for example. Actually, everything is made up of the multiple components of these substructures. Quantum physics is a field of science that deals with tiny bodies and the quantification of various forces, including energy and angular momentum. As with traditional physics, quantum science has many sub-fields, such as dynamics and the study of electromagnetic powers. The theory of correspondence notes that quantum mechanics is the same as classical physics in the classical boundary (large, slow-moving objects). In this essay, we begin the development of quantum mechanics and its explanation of the mysterious submicroscopic universe. During subsequent pages, we will discuss a variety of fields, such as atomic and nuclear science, where quantum mechanics is key.
Quantum mechanics is the basis of a range of different fields, including nanotechnology, condensed matter science, quantum chemistry, structural biology, particle physics, and electronics.
